Apr 19, 1938 — Aug 10, 2026
Jupiter
Willie Lamar Morris, 88, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, in Jupiter, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born April 19, 1938, in Samson, Alabama, to Samuel L. Morris and Hazel H. Morris. He grew up in Samson alongside his brother Alva and excelled in school, where he met Sandra “Gayle” Griggs. They were married on August 30, 1957. Lamar went on to attend Auburn University, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering.
After college, Lamar joined the United States Air Force and served as a flight instructor in the T-37 and T-38. He later enjoyed a distinguished career as an Airline Captain. He shared his deep love of aviation with his children and grandchildren, inspiring their own passion for the skies.
Lamar and Gayle were the proud parents of two sons, Michael, born in 1961, and Matthew, born in 1966. Together, Lamar and Gayle instilled a deep passion for athleticism in their family. Whether it was enjoying a sporting event, playing tennis, or skiing, Lamar was a true competitor. Lamar’s love for snow skiing translated to a family tradition, once again inspiring to his children and grandchildren. He was a man of wisdom, curiosity, and abiding love. His profound and enduring love for his bride, Gayle, was something the family often remarked upon and deeply admired. His unconditional love for the entire Morris clan meant he was always willing to go above and beyond for them.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Alva.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Gayle Morris; his sons, Michael (Stephanie) Morris and Matthew (Beth) Morris; his grandchildren, Jacob (Veronica) Morris, Zackary (Anna) Morris, Randee (Hans) Sharp, Jessica (Brad) Miller, and Reece (Samantha) Morris; and eight great-grandchildren.
Lamar will be deeply missed. His family is determined to carry forward his legacy of curiosity, kindness, and love of flight.
