Roger Keith Long, 75, of West Palm Beach, FL, died on August 21, 2023, in his home, surrounded by loving family. Keith was born on April 21,1948 in Ithaca, NY to the late Dr. Jack and Roberta Nelle Henricks Long. Keith received a B.S. and an M.B.A. degree from Indiana University where he was a proud member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as an artillery officer with the rank of First Lieutenant. Keith founded Otter Creek Management in West Palm Beach, FL in 1991 after a long and successful career working at Merrill Lynch, the Chicago Board of Trade, and Kidder Peabody in Chicago, and Morgan Stanley in New York. Keith was Chairman of the Board for several insurance companies and served on the Board of Directors for Conseco Life Insurance Company in Carmel, IN.
A lover and supporter of the arts, he funded cancer research at the Mayo Clinic and supported the underprivileged at the Tulsa Boys Club. He had a passion for thoroughbred breeding and racing with a stable of horses in Lexington, KY and relished the wins at Aqueduct, Delaware, Churchill Downs and Keeneland racing parks. One of the founding members of the Medalist Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, he golfed wherever he could during his travels. Keith and his wife, Meg, entertained family and friends in their Megeve, France chalet, Chicago co-op, at Pebble Beach, and the Indianapolis 500 races. Keith proudly maintained a farm in Tulsa County, Oklahoma that has been in the Long family for over a century.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Chester Long; a daughter, Nora Clare Long of Silverthorne, Colorado; a son, Owen Andrew Long of West Palm Beach; and a stepdaughter Kelly Alexandra Csiszar of Chicago; two sisters, Dr. Kathryn Long and Jan Long Davis (Myron) of West Lafayette, Indiana; and a cousin, Lisa Long Smith of Edmond, OK survive him.
A family memorial service is planned for this fall in Indiana.
