Obituary

Linda Cox, 88 of Port St. Lucie, passed away May 5, 2026. She was born in Dekalb, Illinois, January 2, 1938 and raised in Waterman. She was the daughter of John and Agnes Hipple and attended Northern Illinois State University and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an honorary and professional sorority for musicians.

Following graduation, and teaching in Illinois, she and her husband, Tom, moved to Florida settling in the Tampa area. During their married lives, they lived in Bloomington, IL; Tampa, Brandon, Coral Springs and Port St Lucie-all in Florida.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was active in church music all her life and a National Clinician for the AGEHR, serving on their Area and National boards for years. She was adjunct at Florida Southern College, a published composer, and directed choirs that toured through Europe and Scandinavia 4 times. She loved her church and was a member of FUMC in Port St. Lucie. In addition to her family and music, she loved duplicate bridge and was a Silver Life Master. Her many friends she made and continued to keep in touch with during her life were always close to her heart.

Surviving are her daughter, Vickki Cox Jorge, son, Kevin Cox and son, Jeffrey Cox. Grandchildren, Eric Jorge and wife Kelly, 2 children Emma and Austin, Anna Jorge and Johnny Berger, Parker Cox, Jacob Cox and Andrew Cox. Also leaving behind beloved mates of her children, Albert Jorge, Sharon Cox and Kathy Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Larry, and her beloved husband Tom, of 61 years.

Celebration of Life, Saturday, June 27, 2026, 10:30am, FUMC of Port St. Lucie Sanctuary, following, let’s gather in fellowship together. Light refreshments provided.
