Obituary

John William Mixon, 81, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday,
October 25, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Mixon, his daughter, Joni Lynne Mixon, his
brother, Lieutenant Colonel (RET), George Calvin Mixon, Jr. (Anne), United States Army, his two nieces,
Kelly Mixon Backer (Alan), Courtney Mixon Cummings, and extended family. John is preceded in death
by his Mother, Margaret Ellen Mixon, and Father, George Calvin Mixon, Sr.
John was born on March 14, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended North Kingstown High School in
Rhode Island, then continued his education at the University of Florida, where he graduated with his
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. John worked for Pratt and Whitney in West Palm Beach,
Florida, until he retired after 42 years.
John was an active member of his parish at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, where he served as a
Eucharistic Minster and Head Usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as
a Past Grand Knight of Council 12322, Former District Deputy, Former State Chairman, and Financial
Secretary.
John was an avid toy train collector, specifically Lionel trains. He attended many train meets and
conventions over the years. He loved putting together Springbok puzzles, especially the challenging ones
with thousands of puzzle pieces. He enjoyed traveling all over the country with Linda, where they would
stop and eat at many restaurants featured on the Food Network. John loved talking about college
football with Joni Lynne, specifically UF and UCF football.
John was very much loved and highly respected by his family, friends, and anyone he met. His memory
will live on forever in our hearts.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00am at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic
Church, located at 10970 Jack Nicklaus Drive, North Palm Beach, FL 33408.
An inurnment service will be held following the funeral mass on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 12:00pm
at Riverside Memorial Park, located at 19351 SE County Line Road, Tequesta, FL 33469.
A reception will be held in St. Joseph's Parish Hall, located at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, after
the inurnment service.
