Dr. James K. Weick of North Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on February 13, 2024. Jim was born on January 30, 1940, to Karl and Dorothy Weick. He attended Wittenberg University and obtained his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1965. He received his training in internal medicine and hematology/oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After serving two years as a navy physician at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Dr. Weick joined the Cleveland Clinic foundation in the department of hematology and medical oncology, serving as department chairman from 1983-1991. He was appointed as chairman of medicine at Cleveland Clinic Florida from 1991-1995. After retiring from the clinic in 1997, Dr. Weick remained in Florida and worked as a consultant in private practice and at the VA medical center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Weick was respected as an effective teacher and clinician. His succinct clinical notes laced with a wry sense of humor became his trademark. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology and the South West Oncology Group. Jim was the loving husband of Dianne, and father of James, Jr. (Monica) and Steven
(Allison). He was a proud grandfather of Jim, Samantha, Katherine, and Lauren. He is also survived by his brother Karl (Karen) and his three nephews, Kirk, Kyle, and Kris. Jim loved his family dearly and could often be found coaching little league with his boys,
taking golf trips with his family, watching his grandkids pursue their hobbies and interests and talking about his favorite sports teams especially those from Ohio and Florida. Those we love can never be more than a thought away… they live in our hearts forever. Our family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
